Fumbling Towards Ecstasy

well here i am. hard to believe really, but it's really the case.

i'm loving oxford. i've only been here two days but the city is really charming. we flew in yesterday morning after a short stay in ottawa. needless to say friday was a day for cursing air canada. we began our takeoff on the runway at winnipeg when as quick as we began to race down the runway, we stopped. apparently the steering on our nose was malfunctioning. away we went to the terminal to be fixed. it couldn't be fixed so we ended up switching planes. this after two hours.

this made karlee and i miss our connection in ottawa. this made us have to run to catch another connection in order to be in ottawa in time to allow for us to get to our dinner. unfortunately, we made the plane, our baggage did not. so, luckily i had my suit in my carry-on. karlee was not so lucky. after waiting an hour for the baggage to come by courier to the hotel, she borrowed the skirt of the hotel desk clerk and headed to the dinner.

meeting really old rhodes scholars is interesting, however, one needs to constantly remember that they shouldn't look to them for advice about the place as they really have no idea what it's like here.

that's not to say the place changes a whole ton. the city is steeped in history and it's a little hard to get over. out my window is the original oxford city wall which was built in something like 900... craziness. however, my building was gutted two years ago and so has all the modern amenities. i have a lovely shower all to myself and a beautiful bed room which is cozy but really quite functional. i have more closet space here than i did at home :)

british customer service is really how it's stereotyped. they're really not here to help you. banking is the worse part of that but i know have an account and money and will hopefully never have to deal with them again. anyway, i should be getting some rest. tomorrow is cap and gown, alarm clock and potentially bike shopping day...

cheers for now...
