Fumbling Towards Ecstasy

About a boy who randomly posts but is filled with many thoughts, most of them ridiculous, some stupid and the odd one intriguing...

I hereby call on the international community to renounce their recognition of US statehood until they elect new leadership through free and democratic elections (no getting your cousin to buy you an election) and until the violence they continue to inflict upon the world ends (no statehood until innocent Afghans, Iraqis and Central Americans stop being murdered). Too bad the world doesn't work that way...

thank god Stats Can is arms-length. two interesting studies this week: 1) that students from rural areas aren't coming to university at the same rate as urban kids. "The education gap between the rich and poor is widening as students from low income families who reside in Canada's remote areas increasingly pass up on university, a new Statscan survey says". More concrete evidence that tuition increases are narrowing the accessibility pool for PSE. How long can we continue to assume that we can find all the great thinkers, leaders and innovators within the upper echelantes of society? Bah I say to this shortsighted neoconservative bullshit which doesn't realize that education is not only a great equalizer but also a tremendous economic engine.

2) That the provinces are carrying more of the burden social spending. That's why it's hard to pin all the blame for the first study on the cruel and heartless Ontario of Mike Harris. However, it seems there is no voice willing to lead us out of the wilderness, or the public policy vacuum as Ann Dowsett Johnston put it. Someone has to take responsibility because we're doing a massive disservice to our country and to our future. Might sound cliche but fuck does it piss me off...

G'night :)
