so, apparently just because you write a well-received newspaper column doesn't mean you're very smart. jan wong was on the mary walsh book club yesterday night reviewing alice munro's hateship, friendship, courtship, loveship, marriage. many of you know that i used to thoroughly despise jan wong but actually started liking her after her interview with mark hall and with her parting column for lunch with. however, she basically got attacked for some really dumb comments about the book. she said she hated books that jumped between past and present as she liked things to move chronologically... then she said she hated books with subtext. sweetie, everything has subtext. she said she liked shakespeare... i guess shakespeare just hits you over the head with everything he means to communicate :) so, basically jan wong should write articles and not read books ... or at least not talk about them...
