road to perdition (a special for davidcarey)

it is SOOOO good. as i said yesterday, i'm normally not a tom hanks fan but he is splendid in this movie. and as joanna schneller put it in the globe "you can dress jude law up and make him look nasty, but he's still the hottest nasty boy you've ever seen" (please note, that is a paraphrase).

anyway, the movie is based on a picture novel so the cinematography is very comic book-like. there's very little light and the scenes are all very stark- it's really quite beautiful...

to a certain extent, it's a cop-out ending, however, it does raise really interesting questions about whether we can truly get rid of all the "bad guys" and leave only those untainted by evil to carry on... there is a deeper quesiton at work here of whether evil and good are not just choices and that there is nothing we can do to free society from evil except look deeper into ourselves.
